2. Biography & Introduction

Write a short, friendly introduction that connects you to the community.

Example:

I have lived in Thessalon, Ontario for over 25 years, raising my family here and running a small hardware store downtown. My background in business management and volunteer service with the local food bank has given me first-hand insight into the opportunities and challenges our town faces.

3. Community Involvement & Qualifications

  • Past or present community service (e.g., service clubs, local boards, volunteer fire department, agricultural fair committees)

  • Relevant work or leadership experience

  • Any municipal or committee experience

Example bullet points:

  • Former Chair, Bracebridge Downtown BIA

  • 15 years managing operations at a local manufacturing plant

4. What I Bring to Council

A short section explaining your strengths and why they matter locally.

  • Deep understanding of rural and small-town issues

  • Experience working with tight budgets

  • Proven ability to bring people together for common goals

5. Key Issues & Priorities

Identify 3–5 main priorities based on your community’s needs. Keep them specific.

Example for a small Ontario municipality:

  1. Downtown Revitalization — attract and retain small businesses to fill empty storefronts.

  2. Infrastructure Renewal — advocate for provincial/federal funding to repair aging roads, water, and sewer systems.

  3. Youth Retention — support trades training and affordable recreation to keep young people in town.

  4. Public Input — restore open forums and regular town hall meetings so residents have a voice.

6. Goals if Elected

Turn your priorities into actionable promises.

Example:

If elected, I will work to secure grant funding for the Meaford water treatment plant upgrade, establish a quarterly open council forum, and launch a shop local marketing campaign in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce.

7. Closing Statement

A short, warm appeal to voters.

Example:

Our town has a proud history and a bright future, but only if we make smart, inclusive decisions. On October 26th, I ask for your vote so we can move forward—together.

Why This Format Works for Ontario Small-Town Elections

  • Relatable: References to local places, institutions, and issues make it feel grounded.

  • Concise: Small-town voters appreciate straight talk, not long political speeches.

  • Flexible: Works for print flyers, local newspaper ads, or Facebook campaign pages.
