Candidate for Owen Sound City Council

About Me
I have called Owen Sound home for over 25 years, raising my two children here and building my career as a small business owner in the downtown core. As the owner of Thompson’s Books & Café, I have worked closely with residents, local artists, and community organizations to make our city more vibrant and welcoming. I believe in practical, common-sense leadership that keeps Owen Sound moving forward while preserving what makes our community unique.

Why I’m Running
Owen Sound is a community with enormous potential, but too often, important decisions are made without enough public input. I am running for City Council to ensure that residents’ voices are heard and respected. I want to focus on making our city safer, more affordable, and better connected—both for the people who live here now and for future generations.

My Priorities

  1. Downtown Revitalization – Support initiatives to reduce downtown vacancy rates, address safety concerns, and attract new businesses.

  2. Transparency and Public Engagement – Open up council processes so residents can meaningfully contribute to decisions.

  3. Affordable Housing – Work with community partners and higher levels of government to increase housing options for all income levels.

  4. Recreation and Green Spaces – Protect our parks and trails while expanding recreational programs for youth and seniors.

  5. Economic Growth – Support local businesses and attract new industries that provide well-paying jobs.

What I Bring to the Table
I have a track record of listening to people, solving problems, and getting things done. I believe city council should be approachable, accountable, and open to new ideas. My decisions will always be guided by what’s best for the community—not special interests.
